The San Rafael National High School (SRNHS) of Tigaon, Camarines Sur initiated the conduct of the shoreline coastal cleanup drive at Sabang Beach, Brgy. Sabang, San Jose, Camarines Sur last October 4, 2014. This is the third time that the school held the same activity at Sabang Beach to observe the
Annual International Coastal Cleanup Drive in collaboration with the local government unit of San Jose and CENRO-DENR office in the 4th District of Camarines Sur.
A program was conducted at the shoreline that started with an invocation led by the YES-O President, Mr. John Marquel P. Revilla, followed by the singing of the national anthem led by Ms. Angela P. Ortiz, YES-O Treasurer. Thence, a welcome remark was delivered by Brgy. Kagawad Evangeline Buenaflor as the official representative of Brgy. Captain Vilmor E. Panuelos.
It was followed by a short message by Engr. Alma Peñola who spoke for and in behalf of Mayor Antonio B. Chavez, reiterating to the participants the importance of environmental awareness and protection, as well as the cooperative efforts by the community in sustaining the cleanup drive which is now a yearly worldwide event.
A brief orientation of the participating students was conducted by Mr. Francis M. Florece, CENRO-DENR representative. The cleanup activity was formally started at around 9:00 until 11:00 in the morning and it was participated in by a total of 140 high school students and faculty members from Grades 7, 8, 9 of the said school including the CENRO-DENR and LGU representatives.
During the program, Mrs. Gloria P. Bacares, Principal of SRNHS and Mr. Rodolfo A. Pempeña, activity organizer, awarded the plaques of appreciation to the participating agency and local government units.
