The Federation of Senior Citizens Association, Inc. celebrates the 20th Foundation Anniversary last October 8, 2014 at the San Jose Sports Complex in San Jose, Camarines Sur. Said occasion was participated in by the 29 barangay chapters of senior citizens with a theme: “Nakatatanda ay Yaman, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bayan, Pangalagaan ang Kanilang Kapakanan.”
The program was started with the singing of the national anthem and the opening remarks of the Federation President, Mr. Ricardo “Dick” Candia. It was immediately followed by a message from Mayor Antonio B. Chavez who spoke about the important role of the senior citizens in molding the minds of the youth by being a good example. He also informed the general membership that his administration has already established the San Jose Diagnostic Center with the purpose of giving the poor people the opportunity to avail free services more particularly the senior citizens. He stressed that old folks should be very conscious of their health. Meantime, he invited them to visit the diagnostic center and avail of its free services.
Provincial Board Member, Atty. Amador “Badong” Simando of the 4th district also delivered his piece by exemplifying the importance of education as one of the main factors to uplift the lives of many. He said that he has been espousing a lot of programs and projects that will benefit the poor children thru educational scholarships. He also reported that school books are being distributed among schools within the district to both elementary and high school institutions. He was also grateful for the trust and confidence of the senior citizens and promised that he will continue to render true service with honesty and integrity.
Meanwhile, Mr. Francis Pano and Mr. Pol Maleniza, staff members of the Office of the Vice Governor Fortunato Peña, represented the latter with Mr. Maleniza as the guest speaker of the said occasion. He emphasizes the role of the senior citizens being the idol of their grandchildren which he considers already a good contribution to the community. He stressed that the provincial government has been very cognizant to all the needs of the senior community in the whole province.
