The National Competitiveness Council Philippines (NCC) recently released the overall scoring results for the annual Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index which the Local Government Unit of San Jose under the administration of Mayor Antonio B. Chavez was ranked 182 among the 755 Municipalities all over the Philippines.

It also said that San Jose, Sagñay, and Tigaon were the only municipalities in the 4th District of Camarines Sur included in the list of the most improved LGU that belong to the 3rd to 6th class municipalities. On the other hand, Camarines Sur was also included among the top provinces in the country.

The NCC Philippines conducts the annual Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index as benchmarked against key global competitiveness indices, map each indicator to the agency responsible, focus on the lowest-ranking indicators, track city/municipality competitiveness and key indicators, working groups concentrate on specific projects that are consequently linked to Philippine Development Plan, National Budget, Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council, and Cabinet Agenda.

The NCC processes regional data to come-up with national rankings and presents results and award the best performing localities. It has named the most competitive LGUs in the 4th Regional Competitiveness Summit recently as it recognized the crucial role of local governments units in promoting competitiveness in the country highlighting the results of the 2016 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI).

For the qualification of a province, there will be two qualifying measures for the provincial ranking, to wit: 60% of the Provincial Population and 90% of the LGU’s in the Province shall be covered.

Last year, San Jose spotted 137 overall, although it has decreases with negative (-) 45 this year, the town is still celebrating because of its good scores in Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency including the town’s Infrastructure.

According to Chavez, for a town that belongs in a Fourth Class Municipality, it’s already a big achievement to be known as one of the most improved LGU in Camarines Sur. He expressed his gratitude to the full support of the Department Heads of the different offices of LGU-San Jose and employees for working hard to be recognized and for giving their clients better service satisfaction. He said that his administration will not just settle from the present ranking but promised to excel and attain higher degree of achievements.
