About 1,400 youths and municipal scholars, including teachers and a few parents attended the Christmas bash sponsored by the Local Government Unit of San Jose held last December 22, 2014 at the San Jose Sports Complex.
The occasion was opened with a video prayer and singing of the national anthem followed by a short message of Municipal Councilor Raymund Pacamarra. The latter encouraged the youth and scholars to study hard to get equipped with the knowledge and skills that can be used to uplift their own lives and help also their families.
Mayor Antonio B. Chavez also delivered a short message reiterating the full commitment of his administration, together with the wholehearted cooperation of the Vice Mayor Evelio Pena, who heads the Sangguniang Bayan and the Municipal Councilors Domingo “Paling” Tam, Hassan “Barok” Durante, Raymund Pacamarra, and Julian Bausa, saying that the LGU will continue to provide scholarship grants to all deserving students. This will be so in order to achieve their common goal for San Jose of having at least one college graduate in every family.
Mayor Chavez also announced that a factory in Laguna is in need of 50 each of male and female factory workers, and that his office is now filling in the positions available for immediate employment.
On the other hand, Municipal Councilor Bausa express his feelings of seeing a vast number of youth scholars and urged them to learn sacrifice if they would really wanted to finish their studies. He believes that education is one of the foundations of a great family. Thus, he expressed his full support to the initiatives of Mayor Chavez. The same view was shared by Municipal Councilor Tam. Meanwhile, Municipal Councilor Durante also urged the municipal scholars and youth to take this opportunity to be able to have the chance of studying in college and land a good career in the future. As much as possible, avoid teenage relationship and focus on studies. Studying and obtaining a degree in college is one of the living legacy of the youth and scholars for their good future.
Likewise, Barangay Captain Roy Fernan Credo of Barangay Calalahan was also invited to speak. He said that he was happy to see the many talents that the youth and scholars displayed during the occasion. He advised them to always level up their talents and skills and to take good care of it.
Moreover, the significant highlight of the occasion was the Choir and Christmas dance competitions. On choir competition, the scholars from the Kinalansan National High School won the first prize and the PSU-Goa Campus scholars were second. On dance competition, PSU-Goa Campus scholars won the first prize followed by Rangas-Ramos National High School, Villafuerte-Pena National High School and Kinalansan National High School. The first prize winners of both competitions won ₱5,000.00 plus trip to Albay; second – ₱3,000.00; third – ₱2,000.00; fourth – ₱1,000.00. Meanwhile, a raffle draw followed on the following digital gadgets: 20 cellphones, 5 Tablets, 5 pocket wifis, 20 bag packs and 20 Smartload prepaid cards worth ₱100.00 each and other cash prizes given in random as the raffle went on.
