Mayor Antonio B. Chavez of San Jose, Camarines Sur once again stood as one of the principal sponsors of the 154 couples solemnized through the Kasalan ng Bayan held last February 12, 2015 at the San Jose Cultural Center.
The Kasalang Bayan is the fifth mass wedding ceremony held every February of each year in conjunction with the observance of the “Civil Registration Month” in partnership with the Office of the Mayor and the Local Registrar’s Office headed by Mrs. Muriel L. Abragan in coordination with the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly known as the National Statistics Office) headed by Mr. Clemente S. Manaog, who was the invited Guest of Honor.
Likewise, the Association of Barangay Secretaries of San Jose under the leadership of Mr. Jem Mesia, Barangay Secretary of Pugay, has also played a very critical role particularly in terms of scouting unwedded couples at their respective barangays as well as in the preparation of marriage documents.
Before the formal rites of marriage, Mayor Chavez advised his new “ihadas and ihados” that they have to be always faithful with each other, rear their families with dignity and fear of God, and to strive to be wedded consequently under the blessing of the Lord by validating their marriage through Church ceremonial rites.
After the ceremony, particularly during the “prosperity dance” the Mayor together with his municipal councilors and friends: Hassan Durante, Raymund Pacamarra, Domingo Tam Jr., Julian Bausa, PBs Honey Credo, Noel Briones and Mr. Vic Dizon, subsequently distributed gift items to each of the newly wedded couples and gave away special awards and gifts to the oldest couple with many children and a couple who cohabited for almost eight (8) years but with no children.
These 154 pairs are the recent addition of almost two (2) thousand couples of mass weddings where the Mayor Chavez stood as one of the principal sponsors, thus, the people most fondly call him “Ninong ng Bayan”.
