The local government of San Jose under the administration of Mayor Antonio B. Chavez in partnership with the Department of Health conducted the 3-day Barangay Health Planning Seminar Workshop at the Regent Hotel, Naga City last June 9-11, 2015. The said seminar workshop was participated in by the Barangay Captains, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), and Committee Chairmen on Barangay Health.
Mayor Chavez said that the partnership of the DOH-RO5 with the LGU-San Jose is a very timely opportunity because it magnified his Ayuda Program intended for the poor and needy residents of his town. The expected outputs are the Barangay Health Plans and Action Plans that would ultimately highlight and uncover many health problems encountered by barangay officials and employees at their respective area of jurisdiction.
On the first day, the seminar workshop started with an invocation and the singing of the national anthem and an inspirational message was rendered by Mayor Chavez. It was followed by an overview and introduction to the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program (MLGP) conducted/facilitated by Mrs. Joy Decalzo, PHA-III of MLGP and Ma. Rosario L. Gomez, DMO IV of the Department of Health-RO5 then the presentation of the Municipal Health Situation of Dr. Arnel P. Armea, the Municipal Health Officer of Rural Health Unit of San Jose and the lecture on “Bridging Leadership” was delivered by Mayor Chavez.
In the afternoon, lectures were conducted on the following topics for Workshop No. 1: Barangay Health Planning and its Features; Barangay Local Health Board, its Composition, Roles and Functions. It was followed by the workshop proper which required each Barangay to present their respective Barangay Health Situation using the Planning Worksheets and LGU Scorecards provided for the purpose.
On the second day, the activity was started with an opening praise and recapitulation of the previous day’s activities. It was followed by the continuation of the workshop with selected barangay officials were invited to present their respective output. Workshop No. 2 started with an introduction on the Objectives, Targets and Strategies of the Barangay Health Plan. In the afternoon, the presentation of the output of Workshop No. 2 was done followed by Workshop No. 3 which was about the Action Plan.
On the third day, there was again an opening praise and recapitulation of the second day’s activities, and followed by the presentation of output for Workshop No. 3. Extensive discussions ensued among participants particularly on their respective Action Plan presentation. There were on-the-spot corrections and justifications as to the correctness of the presentation which turned out a lively critiquing and discussions on to each other’s work.
The facilitator of the seminar workshop announced that the second batch of the said seminar workshop will be on June 23-25, 2015 at the same venue. A closing program was conducted to formally end the 3-day activity.
