Mayor Antonio B. Chavez of the Municipality of San Jose recently received a letter dated November 18, 2014 from Regional Director Arnel B. Garcia, CESO-II of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office-5 informing the former that the local government unit of San Jose (LGU-San Jose) has been issued the Certification of Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance by the Council for the Welfare of Children.
The letter further stated that the basis of the said certification was the assessment made by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) of LGUs on their performances with regard to the delivery of social services on child and youth welfare and in identifying results of intervention. Receiving such seal would also mean that LGU-San Jose was included in the shortlist by the National Award Committee (NAC) of the Presidential Award for Child Friendly Municipalities and Cities for validation visits that will be conducted from November 14 to January 2015. Consequently, the result of the NAC validation and deliberation will be submitted to the Council Board for its approval and recommendation for the most sought after Presidential Awards for Child Friendly Municipalities and Cities per category. Whichever local government unit(s) that have been selected and qualified per category to be one of the Presidential Awardees will attend the awarding ceremonies in March 2015 at the Malacanang Palace, the letter stressed.
Meantime, Mayor Chavez received the Certification of Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance last December 5, 2014 together with the 39 other LGUs in the Bicol Region at the Fiesta Ballroom, Tahao Road, Legazpi City during the RSCWC and RIAC on Family quarterly meeting. Accordingly, these Local Government Units (Municipalities and Cities) were selected and qualified from among the 117 municipalities and 7 cities in the Bicol Region.
