Mayor Antonio B. Chavez of LGU San Jose recently conducted assembly meeting with LGU scholars at the San Jose Cultural and Sports Center last October 27, 2015 which was attended by 343 college and post graduate scholars or about 77% of the 444 of its overall total.
The meeting was called for the purpose of clarifying certain points about the aims and objectives of the LGU Scholarship Program and reiterated to the scholars their social responsibility particularly in participating to the different activities such as coastal clean-up drive, tree planting and others.
A short program was started with a doxology and singing of the national anthem. It was followed by a report about the Scholarship Program of the LGU and refresher orientation about the mission, goals and objectives of the program by Mr. Manny D. Clidoro, the Acting Municipal Administrator, afterwhich Mayor Chavez re-oriented the scholars about the standing policies, rules and regulations of the local government about availment of the scholarship grant.
He said that his Office and the Sangguniang Bayan are actively prioritizing allocation of funds for the scholarship grant with over ₱1.0 million apart from the scholarship obtained from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Mayor Chavez also announced about a tentative plan of gathering all together the scholars of the municipality and the provincial office which was tentatively scheduled to be held at the Port Alfred Resort and Hotel in Talisay, Dolo, San Jose, Camarines Sur on November 14 this year. Further arrangements and preparations are still going on.
Meantime, Mayor Chavez cited about the problem of the scholars related to the unpaid tuition fees caused by non-compliance of the scholarship requirements of his Office by a few scholars who were not able to receive the text messages he sent. Some of the scholars who were not around possibly did not receive the message sent through text because they have changed their numbers without notifying his Office. He made it clear to the scholars that they should give their cellphone numbers to the Municipal Scholarship Office.
After the snacks were served to the scholars, Acting Municipal Administrator Manny Clidoro facilitated the conduct of elections of officers for the two campuses of the University, namely: PSU-San Jose and PSU-Goa. Mr. Clidoro said that it would be easier to establish communications between the Office of the Mayor and the scholars because there would be bulletin boards that will be made available at each campus. So, the scholars will be aware of the announcements or updates necessary for their scholarships.
For the PSU-San Jose, the elected officers were as follows: Myra P. Remetir-President; John Erik Adrian M. Abner-Vice President; Myra Glenda C. Orcine-Secretary; Ma. Emmycel P.
